Mylan 752 - A Pill That Does Not Exist

Misspelling of a drug's name is sometimes caused by reasons different from spelling difficulties. Here is such an example. There are some people trying to find information on one of Mylan pills. They call it Mylan 752 pill, trying to search Google, or Yahoo Answers, or healthcare forums for it - all in vain. Just because Mylan Pharmaceuticals does not manufacture a pill indexed "Mylan 752" (though there is a pill indexed "M 752" - Fexofenadine Hydrochloride 30 mg, a generic for Allegra, but the word "Mylan" is not written or enchased on it). But there is a pill indexed "Mylan 152", and the first number in the index can be incorrectly taken for "7", especilly when the surface of the pill is damaged a little. Or, perhaps, when someone has sight problems and is not able to see the index properly. Mylan 152 is 0.1 mg Clonidine, it is used to treat hypertension. As for the so called "Mylan 752", it just does not exist. So far, at least.

Xanex

Like in case with many other drug names, Xanax medication is very often misspelled. But even when people mistake only one letter for another, they get a different "brand" - Xanex. Almost no difference is seen at first, but, believe us, Xanex can have nothing in common with real Xanax at all! By the way, do you know that Xanax is a brand name for alprazolam, and in some countries this substance is marketed under other brand names, e.g. Alplax in South America. And there is a lot of faked Alplax on the market (produced esp. in Paraguay), but the genuine Gador Alplax (by Gador, Argentina) is as good as branded Xanax (with all the letters in their right positions :) ), although the spelling looks very different! And one more fact. In the United States, Xanax is well-known as Mylan A pills (indexed A, A1, A3, and A4), and they belong to the best generics for Xanax.

Aderol or Adderall?

Let's go on. Today our topic is Adderall medication. Please, don't look at the writing! First, try and write the drug's name yourself. How many letters 'd', 'r' and 'l' do you use? Do you have an 'a' or an 'o' as the third vowel? We have counted up to 15 (!) wrong variations people use when writing this brand's name. They write Aderal, Adderall, Aderral, Adderral, Aderrall, Adderrall, Aderol, and even Adderroll... For a comlete list you may refer to http://adderall.limewebs.com/ But the problem is that if someone wants to sell you Aderol instead of Adderall, aren't they trying to trick you into buying a faked product - just because you don't exactly know what it is really called?

Stratera?

Now, what would you, please, choose among these:

a) Stratera
b) Strattera
c) Straterra
d) Stratterra

When we speak, there is almost no difference, because we all mean Atomoxetine (Strattera), a non-stimulant medication used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), especially in children, and as a drug that helps concentrate.

But when we write, the differences may turn to be crucial because ANYTHING can be hidden under a slightly distorted drug's name. You will make no mistake if you choose b). But, according to our survey, every twelfth person takes up other variants, with Stratera leading in the list of misspellings. Please, do be careful when ordering and buying anything non-standard, and read the labels before making a purchase!

Diazapan

"Diazapan" - one more example of how Diazepam can be misspelled. This time people do not only mishear the last letter, but also make a mistake with the vowel in the middle. In such cases, "a" often takes place of "e". And what do we get as a result? A new brand name? Well, almost... To say nothing of the fact that diazepam is a true generic, and diazapan is a wrong medication. Perhaps, even dangerous if you really have a pack of it.

Diazepan

What makes people write some words with mistakes? Yes, some words can be real posers and spelling puzzles, and one has to learn the positions of every single letter in them. What would you say about ''psychophysicotherapeutic''? OK, calm down and relax a little, drug manufacturers are not so cruel, they usually choose something less tongue-twisting. Really, a drug's name has to be as short, clear and easy to remember as possible. But even a very popular drug name can be misspelled by a lot of people. How do you spell ''diazepam''? To put it more precisely, what do you hear on the ending of this name? The matter is that crowds of people seem to hear ''n'' instead of ''m''. As a result, they look for diazepan instead of diazepam. Let us start our collection of drug's misspellings with this pearl! However, make sure to remember that diazepan should by all means be changed with diazepaM.

Misspelled Drug's Names

Grammar... Spelling... What do they have to do with drugs? Nothing, someone may say. But, in fact, right spelling sometimes means a quality product, while a misspelled name - a fake. When misspelling a drug's name, you may get an absolutely different medication that is used to treat anything else but not your health problem. You are sometimes even unable to find what you need due to incorrect spelling of the drug's name. We are starting this blog to clear the situation with some popular medicines and their misspelled names.
